Looking for something fresh for that kid in your family who seems to have all the energy in the world? Look no further than a Plasma Car for kids (and adults too!).

What is a kids Plasma Car?

An official Plasma Car by PlaSmart is a plastic ride-on toy meant for the enjoyment of children (but, adults can have fun on it too)! This ride-on toy does not need batteries nor have any gears or pedals to get it going. It harnesses the energy of a kid and combines their wiggles with the natural forces of inertia, centrifugal force, gravity and friction in order to get going.

What is the best age for a Plasma Car?

The recommended age to safely operate a Plasma Car is 3 years and up and it can support up to a maximum of 220 pounds.  SG received an official Plasma Car by PlaSmart for his 3rd birthday (thanks to his grandaunt in Texas). At first, he had difficulty wiggling the steering wheel right and left to get moving, but once he figured out how to move the ride-on toy, he loved it. LP was using a Plasma Car by the age of 2–– with the help from mommy riding along with him until he was comfortable enough to try it on his own.

How much do Plasma Cars cost?

While SG received his as a gift, we did purchase LP's for around $70 USD. While there are other ride-on toys similar to Plasma Car like the Wiggle Car by Lil' Rider that may cost less, we've only used the Original Plasma Car, so we can't speak about the Wiggle Car.

Can Plasma Cars be Used on Hardwood Floors?

Plasma Cars are best used on smooth, flat surfaces –– indoor and outdoor. The wheels that come stock with the ride-on toy are hard plastic. That being said, over time, the plastic wears and may scratch hardwood floors. However, there are options to purchase a Plasma Car with Polyurethane wheels, which may be safer for use indoors, and does provide for a faster, smoother ride.

How Fast Do Plasma Cars Go?

While it is kid friendly and easy-to- use, Plasma Cars have been noted to go up to 6mph. One day, while we were heading down to the park, SG wanted to test how fast he could go. And, to our surprise, we caught him going 9mph on his Plasma Car.

Owning a Plasma Car Advice

While there is a footrest to place your feet when riding the toy, my boys used their feet to also come to a stop, especially when going downhill (so much fun!). If you're planning to have kids experience the thrill of going downhill with their Plasma Car, keep in mind they will eventually wear out the soles of their shoes. So our advice–– have kids wear worn out shoes, or purchase a pair with good rubber soles.
